Today’s the day: #GivingTuesdayNow

Together we give

#GivingTuesdayNow, a day to address the extraordinary need the coronavirus  pandemic has created, is here. Today people across the globe are acting, in GivingTuesday’s words, “to create a wave of generosity, citizen engagement, action from business and philanthropy, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.”

People usually think of donating to charity when they think of GivingTuesday. That’s an important part of today’s event, but GivingTuesday is encouraging other types of generosity as well. Some of their suggestions:

  • Donate supplies for health care workers
  • Stay home
  • Give to the nonprofits you care about most:  “No amount is too little and nonprofits need our support”
  • Buy gift cards from small businesses, or write an online review
  • Reach out to people who are on their own

As GivingTuesday CEO Asha Curran said in March, “Generosity is not about size. Every act of kindness is not only a beacon of hope, it’s a critical act of civic and social solidarity.” You can find more ideas on the event’s website.
