Gates Foundation pledges $120 million to boost access to COVID-19 drug

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has announced a commitment of up to $120 million to accelerate access for lower-income countries to the investigational antiviral drug molnupiravir.

To be allocated in consultation with partner organizations, the funding will support efforts to develop and manufacture generic versions of the drug, which is being developed by Merck & Co. in collaboration with Ridgeback Biotherapeutics.

Ford Foundation announces second cohort of global fellows

The Ford Foundation has announced a second cohort of Ford Global Fellows, who will receive access to the tools, networks, and solidarity they need to work better, smarter, and more sustainably in the long haul.

Launched in 2020, the $50 million program identifies, connects, and supports the next generation of social justice leaders around the globe who are advancing innovative solutions to end inequality.

Global Citizen Year receives $12 million grant from MacKenzie Scott

Oakland-based Global Citizen Year has announced a $12 million grant from MacKenzie Scott and Dan Jewett in support of efforts to develop diverse leaders who are equipped to build a more just, peaceful, and sustainable future.

The largest gift in the organization's history will kick off the New Leaders Fund, a $50 million campaign to support a critical mass of new leaders who have the insights, skills, and networks needed to change the world.

Inaugural Earthshot Prize recipients announced

The Earthshot Prize has announced the inaugural winners of its global competition for groundbreaking scalable solutions to five of the greatest environmental challenges facing the planet.

Established by the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with the goal of incentivizing change and helping repair the planet over the next ten years, the Earthshot Prize will provide each award recipient £1 million ($1.37 million) in prize money.
