Amazon to invest $161.5 million in preserving affordable housing

Amazon has announced commitments totaling $161.5 million to help preserve affordable housing in Arlington County, Virginia, and Nashville, Tennessee.

The investments include a $160 million low-rate loan from Amazon’s Housing Equity Fund to fill finance gaps and preserve more than thirteen hundred affordable units at the Barcroft Apartment community, located near Amazon's new headquarters campus in Arlington.

NDN Collective, Nexus Community Partners receive $100 million

The St. Paul-based Bush Foundation has announced the NDN Collective and Nexus Community Partners as the steward organizations of two community trust funds seeded with $100 million.

Announced in March, the $100 million commitment to address racial wealth gaps resulting from the legacy of land appropriation, slavery, and other race-based policies targeting Native and Black communities is financed by $100 million in social impact bonds issued last fall.

Giving Pledge announces 2021 signatories

The Giving Pledge has announced that a total of fourteen individuals and couples pledged in 2021 to give the majority of their wealth in support of philanthropic causes, bringing the total number of signatories to two hundred and thirty-one.

OSF awards $42.5 million to AAPI, Muslim, Arab, South Asian nonprofits

The Open Society Foundations has awarded grants totaling $42.5 million over five years in support of Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Muslim, Arab, and South Asian (MASA) communities, Axios reports.

Grants were awarded to fifteen organizations dedicated to and led by members of those communities—which have historically received little philanthropic support—to fund nonpartisan, direct advocacy work such as increasing civic participation, conducting voter outreach, pushing for policy reforms, and combatting discrimination.
