Nonprofits focused on diverse talent acquisition in 2022, survey finds

Nearly eight in ten U.S. nonprofits (79 percent) plan to prioritize talent acquisition in 2022, up from 59 percent in 2020, a report from human resources firm Nonprofit HR finds.

Based on responses from more than four hundred nonprofits in thirty-eight states, the 2022 Nonprofit Talent Management Priorities Survey (10 pages, PDF) found that the top three recruitment priorities were attracting and hiring diverse talent (69 percent), strengthening internal capacity around interviewing skills and practices (50 percent), and strengthening the organizational brand to attract better talent (46 percent).

PCORI announces medical research grants totaling $49.5 million

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute has announced grants totaling $49.5 million for clinical effectiveness research (CER) studies aimed at improving care for adults and children across a range of health conditions.

The grants will fund nine new CER studies, including three focused on telehealth and mobile health strategies. Grants totaling $23.5 million were awarded in support of studies to assess the effectiveness of two mobile health (mHealth) technologies at helping people quit smoking, compared with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT); of an online class that teaches pain relief skills to help people manage chronic pain, compared with CBT; and of a real-time remote yoga program in helping people with mild to moderate depression, compared with behavioral activation via video conference or phone.

Bezos Earth Fund awards $443 million for climate justice, conservation

The Bezos Earth Fund has announced grants totaling $443 million in support of nonprofits working to advance climate justice, nature conservation and restoration, and the tracking of critical climate goals.

The funding includes $261 million to further the 30x30 initiative to protect 30 percent of land and sea globally by 2030; $130 million to advance the Justice40 initiative, a U.S. government effort to deliver at least 40 percent of the benefits from federal investments in climate and clean energy to disadvantaged communities; $51 million in support of land restoration in the United States and Africa; and $1.5 million in support of tracking and monitoring efforts.

Report offers roadmap for modernizing U.S. public health system

A report from the Bipartisan Policy Center and a coalition of nine foundations and public health associations outlines the critical investments needed to modernize the U.S. public health system in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The report, Public Health Forward: Modernizing the U.S. Public Health System (71 pages, PDF), calls for state, local, and territorial policies that enable the nation to respond to an array of public health challenges—including future pandemics, mental illness, substance abuse, and obesity—while ensuring that every American has the opportunity to achieve their best possible health and well-being.
